Some history: In August 2005, the valiant effort to save the Willow Grove Naval Air Station ended when the Department of Defense's Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission voted to close the air base. This was a sad end to the base's long and gloried stay in our community. But now it is time to move on.
The same day the BRAC commission voted to close Willow Grove, a judge ruled that plans to deactivate the 111th Fighter Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard - housed at Willow Grove - was not within the BRAC Commission's power.
While politicians claimed victory, this half-a-loaf solution is the worst possible decision we could've gotten. If the air base will no longer continue to exist, we must move on!
The time is now to join in the fight to stop plans for a civilian airport in Horsham!
We are asking you to join in the fight to stop politicians in Harrisburg and Washington from turning beautiful, thriving Horsham into nothing more than a glorified landing strip for fat cat executives.
- If you're worried about the future of the area in and around Horsham, join us!
- If you're worried about jumbo jets thundering over your roof, join us!
- If you don't like the idea of planes rumbling through the sky at all hours of the day and night, join us!
- If you can't sleep at night because of the thought of inexperienced pilots "coming in low" right over our playgrounds, join us!
- If you think it's backwards and unfair to hold 1200 acres hostage for a small National Guard unit, join us!
- If you believe we need to look to the future of our community rather than the past, join us!
We cannot allow politicians to hold Horsham hostage!
The Department of Defense has taken away a long time member of our community, the Willow Grove Naval Air Base. We tried to save it; it didn't work. Now we must move on. There are politicians who think they can win votes by holding on to the past. They are wrong! The tragedy of the closing at Willow Grove now presents Horsham - and the municipalities that are our neighbors - with an extraordinary opportunity.
1200 acres of prime real estate, near both the PA Turnpike and Route 611. The possibilities are endless... but only if you help us ensure a better future for our community.
